How long do rechargeable wall sconces last on one charge?

A Mistiva rechargeable wall sconce runs up to 10 days on one 5-hour USB-C charge in ambient use. Higher brightness shortens that; dimming and the auto-off timer stretch it, and keeping it plugged in removes the limit.

Runtime decides where a battery wall sconce makes sense, and it depends on how you use the light. This post explains what our "up to 10 days" figure assumes, what shortens or stretches it, how charging works on the wall, and when a plug or a hardwired sconce makes more sense.

How long does one charge last?

One 5-hour USB-C charge runs a Mistiva battery sconce for up to 10 days in ambient use. The same figure applies to all three of our battery models: AMBIO, Dream and Blade.

Ambient use means the soft evening setting most people choose beside a bed, along a hallway or around a piece of art. It is the way these lights are designed to be used.

What makes the battery run down faster?

Brightness and hours switched on are the two things that matter most. A sconce dimmed low for an evening uses far less than one at full output from dusk to midnight.

Leaving a light on through the night drains it fastest. That is the case the auto-off timer is there for.

How do you make a charge last longer?

Dim the light and set the timer. Every tone dims from the remote or the touch button, and the remote's auto-off switches the sconce off after 15, 30 or 60 minutes.

  • Use the timer by the bed, so the light goes off after you fall asleep.
  • Dim hallway sconces in the evening; a low glow is enough to walk by.
  • Use full brightness only where you need it, such as a vanity in the morning.

How do you charge a sconce on the wall?

Plug in the USB-C cable for about 5 hours. Each sconce ships with a 10-foot (3 m) cable, so it can charge where it hangs.

You can also lift the sconce off its bracket and charge it on a desk or a counter. It hangs back on the same one or two screws.

Can you use it plugged in all the time?

Leave the cable connected and the sconce runs from the outlet while its battery stays charged. That makes one fixture a battery sconce and a plug-in sconce, depending on the wall.

Unplug it at any point and it keeps running on battery, so the same light can move later to a wall with no outlet.

The AMBIO battery sconce carries a 5200mAh battery in a 23-inch aluminum body, $175 in five finishes and rated 4.8 out of 5 from 257 reviews on Loox (October 2026). Browse all battery operated wall sconces, including AMBIO in black and Dream in gold.

How does that compare with a hardwired sconce?

A hardwired sconce has no runtime limit and no charging, and it gives more light: our hardwired AMBIO runs on 120V at 700 lumens, about a 60W bulb, from $195. In exchange it needs a junction box in the wall, and the U.S. Fire Administration advises that all home electrical work be done by a qualified electrician.

If the wall is already wired or open for a renovation, see our hardwired wall sconces.

Frequently asked

How long does it take to charge a battery wall sconce?

About 5 hours over USB-C for a full charge on Mistiva's battery sconces. That charge then runs the light for up to 10 days in ambient use.

Does dimming save battery?

Yes. Lower brightness draws less power, so a dimmed sconce runs longer on one charge. The auto-off timer saves more by switching the light off after 15, 30 or 60 minutes.

Can you use the sconce while it charges?

Yes. A Mistiva battery sconce keeps working while the USB-C cable is connected, so it can run as a plug-in light whenever an outlet is in reach.

Is the runtime the same for every model?

AMBIO, Dream and Blade are all rated for up to 10 days per 5-hour charge in ambient use.

How long is the charging cable?

Each Mistiva battery sconce ships with a 10-foot (3 m) USB-C cable, so you can charge it on the wall or off it.
