Jack never came from the lighting world. He came from a farm in Ohio, and a habit of walking into things he didn't know how to do and figuring them out. He sold $1.2 billion in mortgage insurance in a year, one person, one state. He took over a company bleeding $140 million a year and brought it back. He built a healthcare-software business and sold it. None of it was about light. Then he spent four years sailing the world's oceans, and the best light he ever saw was a sunset no room could hold. That is what he came back to Miami to build.
